It was Anti-Bullying week between the 19th to the 23rd of November and here at BHTC we were raising students awareness of the seriousness of Bullying and ‘Cyber Bullying’ and the impact it has on a young person’s life. We informed students of the many ways that they can get help and support if they or someone they know is being bullied.
We discussed what qualities a person has that make them a good friend. Everyone will take part in a self assessment to see how good a friend they are to others and see what they may need to do to improve their friendship qualities. A poetry / song / rap competition was also held, with successful entries being sent to Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council. Students were also encouraged to design a postcard that will be used throughout college for students to report any incidences of bullying.
Here at Bristnall Hall we always strive to make our college a safe and happy environment for our students to learn and succeed, all year round. It is with this in mind that we are working with pupils to find out if there are any areas in the college where they do not feel safe. The School Council were also investigating ways in which we can improve these areas so that pupils will feel secure. If you have any concerns or feel that your child is experiencing anything that is making them unhappy do not hesitate to contact the college.
Bristnall Hall takes the next steps in Building Schools for the Future
Work is now well under way on a massive multi-million pound project to improve all secondary schools in Sandwell
Building Schools for the Future (BSF) is a national programme to provide all secondary schools with facilities fit for the 21st century. The council’s plans were wholeheartedly approved by the government and building work will begin in spring 2009. By the time the 15 year programme is completed, each secondary school will be replaced or extensively refurbished to provide state of the art teaching and learning facilities and Extended Schools Services, open for community use. Bristnall Hall Technology College will be a centre for excellence in the delivery of technology, with a new ‘Technology Skills Academy’ giving opportunities to pupils and lifelong learners.
There’s good news for local primary schools too, with an investment programme to modernise the nation’s primary schools set to get underway in 2009. Sandwell is well placed to benefit from this additional investment when it is announced in detail.
“We are forging ahead with developing our plans to transform all of our secondary schools into facilities fit for the 21st century,” says councillor Ian Jones, cabinet member for children and young people.
“We want to use new facilities and new technology to equip teachers and learners with the resources and skills to make the best of life’s opportunities. Our £300 million investment in school buildings will allow us to reshape the curriculum and methods of teaching. These are exciting times that will bring a great deal of change for teachers and learners alike, helping to make Sandwell a great place in which to live, learn and work.”
