The Bowater House - Landmark Building

Bowater House is located on one of the key routes into West Bromwich. By making Bowater House a landmark building through overcladding, the application of Solar Cells and other innovative technical improvements, Sandwell Council hope that the Council employees, local businesses and the people of Sandwell will be regularly reminded of the Council's commitment to what Agenda 21 means in practice.
Some of Sandwell's goals in relation to the renovation of Bowater House:
Bowater House has nine storeys which will house 36 flats.
The building will incorporate: photovoltaic light cells, to provide electricity for the lift and communal lighting, overcladding to improve internal insulation and cut down on condensation, double glazing, low energy lighting, recirculated convection heating and a pitched roof to replace the old flat roof.
The aim of the refurbishment is to reuse as many of the original materials within the building and elsewhere where possible. Some of the materials, like the bricks will either be reused or crushed and used to make ballast for paths and drives.
